For the first time in many years, Abbots Langley High Street will be closed to vehicles for Remembrance Sunday on November 9.
Hertfordshire County Council granted the closure following requests from the Royal British Legion, Abbots Langley Parish Council, and councillors Jon Tankard and Stephen Giles-Medhurst OBE.
The road will be prohibited to use the a certain part of the High Street from its northernmost junction the Crescent south westwards to its junction with Adrian Road from 10am to 11.30am.
An alternative route will be via High Street, Tibbs Hill Road, Trowley Rise, Popes Road, Gallows Hill Lane and High Street.
The closure aims to enable easy access for the annual Remembrance Parade, which will feature the Royal British Legion as well as the Cadets and local dignitaries.
The parade aims to depart from 10.45am northbound to St Lawrence Church and War Memorial, where a wreath laying will take place alongside the annual two minutes’ silence at 11am.
Following this, a Service of Remembrance will be held inside St Lawrence Church and all are welcome and encouraged to attend.
