HERTSMERE FIRST: Bushey councillor forms new group to ‘take the politics out of politics’

Published on: 20th May 2025   |   By: The Newsdesk   |   Category: Uncategorized

A Bushey councillor has joined forces with two other independent councillors to form the new group, Hertsmere First.

On Wednesday, March 26, former Liberal Democrat councillor Marc Amron announced that he would now sit as an independent on Hertsmere Borough Council, joined by former Labour councillor Graeme Alexander.

Since then, the pair have formed Hertsmere First, a new group which aims to “take the politics out of the politics, be the voice of our communities, and safeguard the future of Hertsmere overall”.

The group’s priorities include protecting the green belt against proposed housing developments, adequate health and welfare provisions, comfortable accommodation, and more sports and recreation facilities.

They are also planning to “pressure the county council and National Highways to respond to and manage roadworks and repairs more effectively”.

On Wednesday, May 9, they were also joined by Elstree and Borehamwood councillor Alpha Collins.

Speaking to Bushey News, cllr Amron said: “We have been well received by Hertsmere as a whole.

“The political landscape is changing and it’s time to transform the atmosphere of the council, and Hertsmere First will be the voice outside the larger voice.

“Residents can expect more community communications and regular surgeries.”
