Ruislip fire

Two people were rescued from a fire by a heroic neighbour on a residential road in South Ruislip earlier this morning. The fire started in a house on Mount Pleasant at about 9.30am and Alex Vassilis, who lives two doors away from the fire, saved Mrs Agelean and her friend from the flames. Vincent Tunney, who lives in between Alex and Mrs Agelean also helped by providing a ladder for Alex to save Mrs Agelean’s daughter from the back of the house. Mr Tunney told My News that the events unfolded very quickly. He said: “I looked at the front window and saw Alex and his wife looking down next door’s driveway with a concerned look. “I then saw a passer-by who took his jacket off and ran down the driveway. I then went outside and saw Alex return with a stepladder to get Mrs Agelean off the ledge above her top window at the front. “She had black soot on her face and I could see flames still coming out of the far side of the house. She then said she thought her friend was still in the house. “Alex wanted to go into the house but I checked at the back of the building and her 22-year-old friend was at the window at the far side of the house. “I then got the ladder from my garage and someone helped me get the ladder over the fence into next door’s garden. “Alex climbed up the ladder we put up for him and he helped the friend down from the upstairs window.” Mr Tunney then praised the emergency services for their prompt response and added that Mrs Agelean and her friend were taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation. The fire is still being investigated. For more on this story please read the next issue of My Ruislip News, coming out on February 20.
