Staff at a charity-run café in Berkhamsted are raising awareness of those living in poverty in the town.
Volunteers and employees at the Open Door Café on the High Street believe residents in the area don’t realise how many people are using their food bank and community fridge.
Caitlin O’Shea, the café’s operational assistant, said: “I think most people would be surprised at how many people are struggling, and a lot of people benefit from our services.
“We have regulars that come at least three or four times a week. We have people that come to us from Hemel Hempstead and Tring.
“Loneliness and coldness are a big issue in the town. There should be more warm spaces for people to go to.”
The charity also provides a warm space for people to go to and socialise, as well as take part in creative activities.
Open Door is also looking for volunteers to help out in the café and in the adjacent community garden.
