A public inquiry into the decision to refuse planning permission for a new 130-hectare solar farm near Aldenham officially began last month.
During a six-week consultation process on the application, more than 1,500 comments were provided. This included 1,400 objections to the plan, which was the most in Hertsmere’s history.
The inquiry began on October 19 and was led by an Inspector who was appointed by the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government. It took into account the key case material, such as the appeal statement and planning committee report.
The inquiry continued at the Civic Offices in Borehamwood, on October 20, 21, 25, 26, 27, and will run until November 4.
Elstree Green Limited submitted the application at the start of last year for the development and operation for 35 years of a grid-connected solar Photovoltaic farm with battery storage and other ancillary equipment.
Elstree Green Limited is owned by Enso Green Holdings Ltd, a joint venture between Enso Energy and Macquarie’s Green Investment Group.
In November of last year, the application was rejected at a meeting of the Hertsmere Borough Council (HBC) Planning Comittee.
The public inquiry is being held for the installation of a 130-hectare solar farm at land north of Butterfly Lane, land surrounding Hilfield Farm and land west of Hilfield Lane, Aldenham.

Before ruining green space and nature, solar panels (especially integrated ones) should be installed on all the roofs of shopping centers, supermarkets, schools, the sides of skyscrapers, etc.
