A couple from Radlett celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary surrounded by friends and family at a garden party.
Ivan Hill, 92, and Joan Hill, 91, reached the milestone on Tuesday, June 20.
To mark the occasion, they had a garden party and hired a minibus to bring their friends up from Chichester to Radlett for the occasion.
Ivan first saw Joan in May 1949 while looking out a window of the train as Joan was on the platform.
He then recognised Joan at a funfair in Caterham, Surrey, the following August and asked her to write to him while he was away in the army.
They were married at St Luke’s Church, Whyteleafe, Surrey, in 1953 before moving to Chichester and then Radlett.
They live in an annexe on the side of their daughter Sue Rolfe’s house.
Sue told RadlettNews: “Their relationship is special because they are best friends and share everything.”
Joan and Ivan have two adopted children, Andrew and Sue. They also have three grandchildren, Sam, Ben and Adam.
