A man who dumped a large sofa and other waste items in the lay-by of a Chalfont St Peter road has been prosecuted in court.
Mark Mills, 39, of Lovatt Drive, Ruislip, pleaded guilty to the charge of illegally dumping waste at High Wycombe Magistrates Court on Wednesday, March 29.
The incident took place on Wednesday, June 8, with the court hearing that a full sofa and sofa parts were found abandoned on West Hyde Lane.
Mills was caught in the act by a Buckinghamshire Council (BC) enforcement team, with a camera recording his vehicle pulling up to the lay-by and the driver fly-tipping waste into nearby bushes.
The vehicle was then traced back to a removal company in Slough, where it was confirmed to have been in the possession of Mills on the date of the offence. Mills would later admit the offence during an interview at BC’s offices in Aylesbury.
The magistrates fined Mills £768, also ordering him to pay a contribution of £85 to the council’s clean-up costs and a victim surcharge of £77, bringing his total up to £930.
BC’s cabinet member for climate change and environment, Gareth Williams, said: “What is even more galling with this case is the fact that the offender could have recycled this waste free of charge at his local council recycling centre but instead he chose to break the law and dump it illegally in Bucks.”
