HEARING: Public meeting for Radlett Neighbourhood Plan

Published on: 18th September 2019   |   By: News Desk   |   Category: Uncategorized

A chance to hear views on a plan for Radlett, which is nearing its final stages of preparation and could help shape its future, is available at a public hearing next month.

Aldenham Parish Council’s (APC) draft Radlett Neighbourhood Plan is currently undergoing scrutiny by an independent examiner, who was appointed in July by Hertsmere Borough Council (HBC), the body with statutory responsibility for publishing the plan.

The examiner, Nigel McGurk has decided to hold a public hearing on Wednesday, October 16 at the Radlett Centre in Aldenham Avenue.

Representations will only be heard from individuals and parties invited by APC and HBC.

While there will not be a chance to give views on the day, members of the public are invited to attend to hear those discussions.

The meeting is being held at the discretion of Mr McGurk, ahead of the publication of his report on the plan.

His report may suggest amendments, before the document is put forward to a local referendum. Residents will then be able to vote on whether it should be adopted.

If adopted, the plan could go on to guide landlords, developers, investors and HBC’s planning committee about the characteristics, unique challenges and opportunities in Radlett.

Hertsmere Borough Councillor Dr Harvey Cohen, Portfolio Holder for Planning, said: “This is an exciting juncture for Radlett residents. There have been three previous consultations to get us to this point.

“This is now a chance for residents and other interested parties to hear views ahead of having their final say on the plan at a local referendum.

“Once Mr McGurk has submitted his report, it is up to us to make any necessary changes before the document goes to a public vote.

“If half of votes cast are in support of the plan, then it will be adopted and so will become part of the development plan for the area. That means we will have to take it into account when deciding all types of planning applications, including homes, schools, or community facilities.”

Paper copies of the plan are also available from the Civic Offices in Borehamwood, Aldenham Parish Council offices and Radlett library.

The public meeting will begin at 10am and is due to finish at 3pm.
