HELP OUT: Stanmore volunteers needed to help the less fortunate this Christmas

Published on: 1st December 2021   |   By: Christina Pantelly   |   Category: Uncategorized

The need for Rotarian community projects has never been greater, although volunteers are needed all year round, Christmas focuses the mind even more.

One of the projects supported by Rotary of Edgware & Stanmore is Homeless Action for Barnet. Together with Edgware & Hendon Reform Synagogue, the Rotary club supplies meals to those homeless fortunate enough to be put up in hotels.

Whilst food is being sorted by the organisations, the Rotary club believes small gifts would be appreciated. These donations can be anything from warm gloves, chocolate or toiletries, gift wrapped.

Any donations can be dropped off at Cartons, 40 The Broadway, Stanmore HA7 4DU.

Another charity supported by the Rotary club is KidsOut. A charity who run a toy box scheme for children that annually collect new gifts for the children of women in refuge centres across the UK, due to domestic violence.

KidsOut needs teams of volunteers to audit toys to ensure disadvantaged children can promptly receive gifts. The charity has storage spaces in London Brent Cross and require volunteers from the area help audit the toys.

My Yard is another growing Charity the Rotary club supports. They supply food parcels to over 13 different community groups in the local community. The Rotarians are arranging for children and young people from the Grange Farm Estate, Harrow, to enjoy the Christmas show at Chicken shed.

President for Edgware and Stanmore Rotary club, Peter Bradley said: “I cannot think of anything worse than being homeless and alone at Christmas.

“At this time of year when you think about New Year Resolutions, join the Rotary club to help make the world a better place.”
