A woman who has worked at an Abbots Langley newsagent for 30 years is retiring after finding out the shop is to be taken over by a major supermarket.
Linda Harris has been working at Martin’s on the High Street for 30 years, but has decided to retire after it was revealed that Morrisons would be taking over the shop. Morrisons have made the decision to turn the shop into an off licence which requires it to remain open until 10pm, something Linda and her boss, Mark, don’t want to do.
Peter Harris, Linda’s son, describes his mum as a familiar and cherished figure in the community.
He said: “When I posted on social media about my mum’s retirement, I received so many comments. My mum didn’t realise how loved she was by people in the community.
“When I was a kid, I could never get away with being naughty because there was always someone watching out in the village who would report back to my mum!”
