Tring’s annual Allotment Summer Show has been named a major success, celebrating the best fruits, vegetables and scarecrows from across the local area.
In August, residents showed off their fantastic fruit and veg at the Duckmore Lane allotments in front of judges councillor Nigel Nutkins, ex-councillor Roxanne Ransley, and deputy town clerk Caroline Murray.
The event featured competitions in categories such as the longest runner bean, six pea pods, and three beetroots of equal sizes. But it wasn’t just vegetables being judged this year, as the scarecrow competition added a fun twist with imaginative creations displayed across the allotments.
Prizes, provided by Tring Market Auctions, were awarded to the top entries, including Ken Seabrook, Ian Kempster and Gwynneth Down.
The day ended with a community BBQ that brought everyone together, making for a truly memorable celebration of community and gardening.
A spokesperson for Tring Town Council said: “Well done to this year’s allotment prize winners! Your efforts have resulted in fantastic plots filled with healthy vegetables, fruit and scarecrows. Particular congratulations should be offered for beating the slugs this year!
“Thank you for making the Duckmore Lane allotments a great place to enjoy and be proud of.”
