Three Rivers District Council (TRDC) have passed a motion to reduce mowing of the area’s grassland by 50% to allow wildflowers to grow.
Put forward by Cllr Alex Michaels, it was passed unanimously following a campaign from residents.
Croxley Green Parish Council have already enacted a motion to this effect, with their wildflower meadow getting a lot of praise from residents.
Parish Cllr Chris Mitchell explained: “Cutting back on mowing and planting wildflower seeds is great for the environment. There are areas that are usually cut regularly which could be left and allow a more natural meadow type ecology.
“Wildflowers help the environment in a variety of interesting ways. As pollinator plants, wildflowers help to support declining bee populations.
“Planting wildflowers allows you to create an eco-friendly area that will attract birds, bees, butterflies and insects. Not only that, they look great.”
