A Hemel Hempstead park has won two prestigious awards for its work in aiding biodiversity and helping local bee populations.

Gadebridge Park is one of six Dacorum parks to win a Green Flag Award, an international quality mark for parks and green spaces. This year marks the first time Gadebridge has been given this award.

Also given the award were Bunkers Park and the Water Gardens in Hemel Hempstead.

Councillor Robin Bromham, portfolio holder for neighbourhood operations, said: “The awards highlight the importance of maintaining high standards in our parks, which play a crucial role in community wellbeing and supporting our local biodiversity.”

Dacorum Borough Council has also revealed that Gadebridge Park received the national Bees’ Needs Champion Award. The award is presented by the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs and acknowledges exceptional efforts in helping local bee populations, such as planting wildflowers and considering pollinators in overall grounds management strategies.

Councillor William Allen, portfolio holder for climate and ecological emergency, said: “It’s fantastic to see the dedication and hard work of our Parks and Open Spaces Team recognised on a national level, showcasing our commitment to supporting our population of pollinators in Dacorum.”

Well deserved awards. Our walled garden is always so beautiful and well looked after – it is my favourite place in Hemel. – always peaceful and full of colour. The gardeners do a great job. And they attract bees there.

Gadebridge Park is enjoyed by many people.
Thank you all who tend it.
