Mayor Dorothy Thornhill paid a visit to The Green Canteen in Garston on Tuesday. The mayor visited to find out more about this horticultural community project run by Herts Mind Network in partnership with the Watford Community Housing Trust. The Green Canteen is a social enterprise, which launched in August 2012, as a community resource for residents to grow vegetables and plants, which are then sold onto the community with all proceeds reinvested back into the project. Dorothy said: “This is a wonderful initiative run by a team of dedicated volunteers who support and help people who are vulnerable or experiencing mental or emotional distress. They run events throughout the years so I’d encourage everyone to come along and do their bit for the community while getting some top notch plants or vegetables to take home.” The Green Canteen is open from Monday to Friday from 10am to 4pm. If you would like further information about the Green Canteen contact Caron Brennan, Green Canteen coordinator, on 07544 428928 or email caron.brennan@hertsmindnetwork.org
