A school in Radlett is celebrating after it was named Hertfordshire Schools’ Chess League champions for 2018.
Radlett Prep School entered three teams into the Hertfordshire Chess Championship in March this year, playing in the Training League, the Minor League and the Major League.
After six rounds of competitive play, each team had accumulated enough points to be declared the winners of their respective leagues and were presented with a trophy to mark their success.
The children who played in the Major League were presented with a silver trophy in recognition of their achievement.
Mrs Warren, vice principal of Radlett Prep, who attended the final round of the tournament said she was delighted.
She commented: “I was impressed by the commitment and focus shown by all the children who took part and very proud of the way they represented the school. All their hard work and training has paid off! Our grateful thanks are due to Mr Kumar who takes the chess club and to our dedicated parents who have supported the children throughout the year and at this tournament.”
