GREAT CAUSE: Bushey community donates plants for Jewish Care’s Winter Wellbeing Garden project

Published on: 9th December 2020   |   By: News Bulletin   |   Category: Uncategorized

During the winter months when venturing outdoors becomes harder for older people in the community, Jewish Care, who have a care home in Bushey, is bringing some of the outside in, so the residents can be closer to nature.

The organisation is creating minigardens with each household in their care home so that residents can enjoy the gardens.

The residents at Jewish Care’s Anita Dorfman House at Sandringham, which is on the border between Bushey and Stanmore, are delighted to have begun creating their winter gardens, with the generous donations of plants from members of the local Bushey community.

Local dedicated volunteer, Wendy Pater, who has devoted so much time to supporting residents for many years and especially through the pandemic at Jewish Care’s Anita Dorfman House at Sandringham, responded to the winter wellbeing project by donating plants in memory of her Mum, Queenie.

Wendy’s mother was a resident at the previous Princess Alexandra Home and Wendy has been volunteering with Jewish Care ever since.

She coordinated many kind donations from members of Bushey Synagogue who have also donated plants to Anita Dorfman care home at Sandringham for their winter wellbeing gardens.

Jewish Care’s director of fundraising and community engagement, Adam Overlander-Kaye, said: “We know that nature has a transformative effect on us all and we would like to thank the community and our wonderful volunteers for their generous support of our Winter Wellbeing Indoor Garden Project.

“Their donations of winter plants will mean that our residents can benefit from being able to enjoy nature in our care homes over the winter.  We know that nature has a transformative effect on us all and a positive impact on our wellbeing, which we all need more than ever this year.”
