Students from a school in Northwood recently ranked in the top 50 speakers at the Cambridge Schools’ Debating competition.
The Sixth Form students from St Helen’s School which came first or second in four of the eight debates were Gayatri, Neha, Ria and Samara.
Gayatri, who was ranked 32nd out of 100 competitors said it was a great experience which has helped boost her confidence and helped develop a range of skills.
She said: “It was definitely nerve racking at first however, as the day progressed our confidence really improved. We learned many skills from the experience such as critical thinking, thinking on our feet and public speaking.
“The feedback we received helped us to understand how to improve our speaking ability and to structure our speeches in the short amount of time given.
“Overall, it was a really worthwhile experience and we learned a lot and worked well as teams; it also gave us the opportunity to learn from other talented speakers from other schools.”
