GOOD RESULT: Hemel Hempstead burglar pleads guilty to one charge

Published on: 26th April 2022   |   By: News Bulletin   |   Category: Uncategorized

A 25 year old Hemel Hempstead man has admitted breaking in to a house in his home town a month ago.

Lewis Barrington-Keys, of no fixed abode, appeared at St Albans Crown Court yesterday, Monday, April 25, and pleaded guilty to one charge of burglary. He was remanded in custody for sentencing at a later date.

Police were called on Friday, March 25 after a family arrived home and found a window at their house had been smashed and the property ransacked. Two watches, bank cards and car keys had been stolen.

Officers carried out fast-time enquiries and Barrington-Keys was arrested and charged the next day.

Detective Sergeant John Prendergast, from Dacorum Local Crime Unit, said: “Our detectives obtained CCTV footage of a male acting suspiciously in the area earlier that day. It was a fast-moving enquiry as officers from our proactive Scorpion team then identified the male in the footage as the suspect, who was known to officers.

“We secured emergency warrants for two addresses linked to the suspect that night and found property from the burglary at one of them. The following day, Saturday, March 26, Barrington-Keys was located at another address in Hemel Hempstead and arrested for burglary. He was charged and subsequently remanded into custody. Further property from the burglary has since been recovered.

“Hopefully this response reassures people in Dacorum that police do take action swiftly when crimes like burglary are reported.”
