Waterdale Recycling Centre, in North Watford, is extending its opening hours to give residents a wider window for visiting.
The centre, located on St Albans Road, is one of the three of Hertfordshire’s largest recycling centres and it will switch from five-day to seven-day opening.
This will start in mid-May as Hertfordshire County Council responds to a high number of visits to the sites under lockdown and anticipated increased on-going demand.
County councillor Tim Williams, liberal democrat member for Woodside/Stanborough and member of the waste cabinet panel at Herts County Council said: “It is great news that Herts County Council will revert back to seven days a week opening of the Waterdale Household Waste Recycling Centre, and I very much remember campaigning against the reductions in 2014 when Herts County Council reduced opening times.
“Whilst we maintain that there was no need for reducing the hours for the past six years, and that this has caused fly tipping issues, the fact that they’ve relented is to be welcomed and we look forward to mid-May when the centre will be opened seven days a week.
“All being well, and COVID-19 restrictions permitted, then I also hope that they can increase capacity at Waterdale in mid-May.”
