A group of Explorer Scouts based in Northwood has raised more than £1,500 to support a local food bank.
The 12 Poindexter Explorer Scouts decided to take part in a sleepout last month to understand what it was like to be homeless, while also raising money for the food bank at Emmanuel Church in Northwood.
The Explorer Scouts constructed their own individual shelters using cardboard and spent the night of Saturday, November 26, sleeping outside.
Speaking to Northwood&RuislipNews about why the Explorers decided to take part in the sleepout, Christine Bennett, one of the leaders, said: “We were visited by charity New Hope, and then the idea was to find out more about homelessness and what we can do to help others.
“They [the Explorer Scouts] were out there until about 7am; they were quite proud of themselves.”
