GOOD INNINGS: Abbots Langley cricket club captain looks ahead to season with promising players

Published on: 17th March 2025   |   By: Nik Allen   |   Category: Uncategorized

Ahead of the start of their new campaign, ABBOTSnews caught up with second team captain Jack Bishop about what lies ahead for Abbots Langley Cricket Club (ALCC).

Particularly promising is the young talent coming through the men’s side, with as many as five or six 13 and 14 year olds making the step up to the second team this season.

Jack said: “We’re really good at the minute. We want a superstar; that’s on every club’s list.

“We have quite strong depth. It goes in waves; across generations, you get some good players come through and then they drop off for a few years.”

Two 16 and 17 year olds are also expected to be making the jump to the first team, who play in the third tier of cricket in Hertfordshire.

Jack said: “For a village club, you’d be doing really well to be going any higher.

“Hopefully, we keep progressing. The promotions prove the success we’re having.”

Jack also said that after three promotions in as many years, the second team will likely have a more challenging campaign this year.
