‘GLACIAL PACE’: Scaffolding’s messy appearance in Rickmansworth prompts councillors’ dispute

Published on: 8th March 2025   |   By: Nik Allen   |   Category: Uncategorized

Three Rivers councillors have disagreed over scaffolding which overlooks Rickmansworth High Street.

The scaffolding has prompted complaints due to the tattered nature of the sheeting. It has been in place at 97 High Street for 18 months.

An enforcement notice was issued on Monday, February 10, requiring the landowner to replace the sheeting by mid-March and maintain it properly.

Councillor Oliver Cooper, leader of Three Rivers Conservatives, said: “This has been a problem for 18 months, and the council’s Lib Dem leadership has acted at a glacial pace in dealing with this farce.”

Councillor Stephen Giles-Medhurst, Leader of Three Rivers District Council, explained that the owner initially reassured officers that the scaffolding would be dealt with by Christmas. Then, in January, the owner denied the scaffolding company entry to replace the sheeting. The notice was then served.

Cllr Giles-Medhurst said: “Unfortunately, cllr Cooper appears to think he always knows better than the legal officers who are required to follow due process. The council officers have acted correctly.”
