Girl Guides sleep out for hurricane victims

Published on: 17th April 2018   |   By: Jason Allen   |   Category: Uncategorized

A Girl Guide division held a sleepover with 3,000 other young women and girls across the country to commemorate their global community.

Girlguiding Wealdstone Division took part in an international sleepover at Stanmore Library as part of World Thinking Day.

They were raising money for Girl Guide members in the Caribbean who were affected by Hurricane Irma last year.

Girlguiding London and South East challenged its members to host an international sleepover, and more than 90 sleepovers took place with more than 3,000 girl guides and leaders present.

Troops across Stanmore, Belmont, Queensbury, Wealdstone and Harrow Weald were among those who took part.

Councillor Sue Anderson, portfolio holder for community culture and resident engagement, attended the event, saying: “It was really wonderful to see so many Brownies and Guides enjoying their sleepover in Stanmore Library.

“I am really proud that we were able to accommodate the group in our beautiful refurbished library.

“I hope this will be the first of many opportunities for local community groups to engage with our library service.”

The girls took part in several activities including craft-making and storytelling.

Units across the region have so far managed to collectively raise £23,000 for the hurricane victims.
