NORTHWOOD&RUISLIPnews is delving into the stories of strange goings-on in the area in the run-up to Halloween.
While Northwood has apparently remained a place mostly devoid of reported hauntings and paranormal activities, Ruislip has not been so lucky.
One reported incident took place on February 1, 2013, outside the South Ruislip Community Association and Community Centre. CCTV captured the moment late in the evening outside the building, where what looks to be a slim, transparent figure walks towards a railing before vanishing into thin air.
The building’s caretaker, who was watching the cameras at the time, went outside to investigate, but found no explanation for the apparition.
The centre already had a history of hauntings, with a previous caretaker also believing in a ghostly presence there. He used to greet the spirits in a bid to keep them friendly to him.
Another ghost in the area has a much more macabre story behind it. At the nearby Ickenham Tube station, situated near Ruislip, there have been many tales of people seeing the spirit of a young woman, reportedly only during the festive period.
First appearing in the 1950s, local legend dictates it is the ghost of a lady who fell onto the railway tracks and was electrocuted to death.
Those who have seen the spectre say she can be spotted at the end of the platform where she allegedly fell, waving her arms in a bid to get people’s attention, before vanishing into the night.
