WALKX with Harrow Striders are starting a new health initiative in April after enjoying a successful 2024.
The group is aiming to improve residents’ health and wellbeing with two new walking to wellness programmes in Canons Park.
The first group starts on Tuesday, April 8, and will continue for six weeks. The programme will involve six hour-long guided walking sessions, and also included are WALX membership and online Zoom classes.
The group will cater to people of various backgrounds, including those with previous health issues, people who prefer not to exercise in gyms, and anyone wanting to benefit from nature.
Founder of WALX with Harrow Striders Susan Collen told STANMORE&EDGWAREnews: “Being in nature is a special experience. The sessions will be very inclusive. We’re trying to make people feel like it’s small and personalised, so I can work with health issues and find out what people want to get out of the programmes. It’s about meeting individual needs.”
The guided walking sessions will start at 11am each week and will be run by qualified instructors.
After the six-week walking group on Tuesdays is finished, a second group will launch in early May, running for six weeks on Sundays.
The programme is supported by Transport for London Foundation in partnership with the Friends of Canons Park.
Susan said: “It’s more than just the hour. When Liam’s Café first opened up, they’d go in together to meet before or after sessions.”
