The Henderson Hub’s Creative Canvas Challenge, which is open to residents of all ages and abilities, is making a welcome return next month.
The Hub, located on the High Street, is selling canvases for £3 each or two for £5 from today (Saturday, June 19) until the submission deadline on July 31, and residents are urged to get creative with them.
You can paint, sew, stick stuff on, draw photographs or anything else that comes to mind.
The canvases will then be displayed in an exhibition between August 2 and August 21, with residents invited to come and take a look at the submissions.
If you see one you like, you can take it home for £20 – £10 then goes to the artist and the other half helps fund the Hub as it recovers from the pandemic.
Last year’s exhibition was a huge success, with nearly 300 works from the Abbots community featured and more than £1,500 raised for the Hub.
Speaking about last year’s challenge, participant Laura Furlong said: “It’s a great chance to be let loose on a manageable sized project with no remit, just the freedom of your own imagination.
And to be a small part of the final exhibition really will bring arts and people together, in a time when togetherness is so missed.”
Fellow participant Judy Stower added: “I love the thought of doing something with this creative space I have been given. The best bit is looking at all the creative results from others – they always have some brilliant ideas.”
To get involved, visit the Hub at The Henderson Hall and get yourself a canvas.
