Continuing to inspire the nation, 11-year-old Chorleywood resident Betsy Griffin has made a donation to Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH).
Betsy, who was diagnosed with a brain tumour at age two, released her debut novel Out of the Woods in February last year. The deeply moving fable focuses on changing one’s outlook on the world.
Betsy’s mum Rochelle explained on social media that when Betsy first learned she had secured a publishing deal with HarperCollins, she made a “heartfelt promise” that the first £1,000 she earned would go to children with cancer.
On Saturday, March 22, Rochelle shared: “[Betsy’s] donation has come at the perfect time, as GOSH is currently building a Children with Cancer Centre. The oncology ward is tired and in desperate need of refurbishment.
“Betsy has always been a generous soul, and this has been something she has wanted to do for a long time. Her amazing agent, Bev James, also promised to match Betsy’s donation, meaning that together they have contributed £2,000.”
