An author and screenwriter from Hemel Hempstead is showing his support to NHS staff, key workers and military personnel on active duty by offering to send them free ebooks from his backlist.
Dougie Brimson has sold more than three quarters of a million books worldwide and has three multi-award-winning feature films including Green Street on his CV.
When he announced his generous offer on his website and social media pages last weekend, it proved so popular, he sent out almost 250 books in the first 48 hours.
Thanks to that amazing response, he’s going to continue his offer for the above groups as well as anyone being treated for COVID-19.
A veteran of the Falklands and the First Gulf War, charity certainly begins at home for Dougie.
During long spells of active service, Dougie said he often suffered from boredom so, after he retired from the Royal Air Force, he approached his publishers to try and get some books sent out to active personnel.
His efforts led to 50,000 books being sent to serving personnel during the Second Gulf War and the Afghanistan conflict.
Dougie said: “When the pandemic broke, I thought I’d do something similar – it just struck me as a sensible thing to do. There are people fighting this virus and keeping the country going as well as all those who are ill in hospital. I’m 61 and under lockdown so it seemed like a nice thing to do.
“It’s no different to me as I am normally at home writing. My new book In the Know is out in four weeks’ time.”
