An inclusive theatre company has raised nearly £40,000 for its projects after it was gifted a signed script from one of the UK’s most beloved sitcoms.

The Theatre Shed is an inclusive theatre company based in Amersham and Chesham, offering enriching opportunities for actors, singers and dancers of all backgrounds.

Last month, the charity was delighted to reveal that actor Robert Wilfort, best known for playing Jason West in the hit British Sitcom Gavin & Stacey, donated a signed copy of the script for the 2024 finale of the show, which aired on Christmas Day.

The show is arguably one of the UK’s most successful sitcoms and the final episode was enjoyed by 12.32 million viewers, making it the most-watched show on Christmas Day since 2008.

When fans of the show discovered the opportunity, the charity’s fundraising page crashed from inundated donations and entries.

Artistic and executive director Alice Connor said: “We never knew it would raise so much and what’s more, so much publicity for our wonderful charity.

“This raffle could not come and a more poignant time for Shed, it has been challenging to make ends meet and keep our doors open. But we strive forward because our company is full of young people and adults from diverse and often underrepresented backgrounds, who have big ambitions often overlooked.

“Shed is here to create equal opportunity and raise aspirations through the creative arts. This year is our 20th anniversary, and what a way to kick it off!”

Talking to PA news agency, Robert said: “I think it’s overwhelmed all of us that were a part of it, I don’t think we knew, we knew people would like it, but I didn’t think of the levels it’s got to, it’s quite extraordinary, really.”

Thanks to Robert’s donation, the charity managed to raise whooping £46,470.00
