A St Albans teenager has landed himself the lead role of an independent coming of age story.
Ilirian Bushi will star as Charlie in the film Cardboard Fort, a comedy written and directed by University of York film and television production student, Sam Hartshorn.
The comedy, filmed in Harrogate, is based around new kid Charlie when he finds his cardboard fort is mysteriously burned to the ground.
His developing friendships are shattered and he has to retrace the steps of his volatile summer to hunt the arsonist down.
Ilirian said: “I can’t wait to meet the rest of the cast, the crew and to start filming, the script is very funny, I had tears running down my face when I read it.”
“I’m really looking forward to building and defending the fort and the huge water fight scene we have to film.”
14-year-old Ilirian auditioned for the film by recording and sending a tape of him.
Ilirian’s mum, Ros Bushi, said: “Ilirian was over the moon when he received a message from Velton J Lishke, who had a helping hand in casting and has a significant role in the film.
“Velton said that he was blown away by Ilirian’s performance, he told him how fantastic he was and how he would be ‘buzzing’ to offer him the lead role of Charlie.”
Cardboard Fort began filming in August.
