With the government creating unitary authorities to replace county and borough councils, this has left one big question for residents and councillors: What will this mean for Bushey?
On Thursday, November 6, the Bushey Forum met to discuss what impact this would have on the community.
The Forum shared that with the dissolution of Hertsmere Borough Council, the town could eventually be represented by just three councillors in the new unitary authority.
Currently, Bushey has 11 borough councillors and two county councillors. The Forum argues that fewer councillors will mean their “influence… will be diminished”.
Another major concern voiced by residents has been that planning decisions could be made “many miles from Bushey” and “our Local Plan will be created by people who know little about the community”.
The Forum has also opened up a conversation about the potential introduction of a parish council, which it argues “will give Bushey residents a voice in local matters, and a level of influence in local government”.
