Schoolchildren across the country took part in a special day last month to celebrate a Pinner poet and author.
The second-ever Michael Rosen Day (MRD) took place on Thursday, November 13.
MRD aims to make reading, listening to, and writing poetry fun and accessible for all children and young people.
The day encourages creativity through activities such as poetry writing competitions and online events, as well as providing free resources for families, schools and libraries.
This year’s theme was Funny Food, with thousands of schools and more than 200,000 pupils taking part nationwide.
Award-winning Michael Rosen has written more than 200 books including We’re Going on a Bear Hunt and poems such as Hot Food: Nice!.
He was born and grew up in Pinner and is believed to have been inspired by many visits to the local library as a child.
Discussing MRD 2025, the author said: “It’s incredible. It feels very egotistical when someone said ‘why don’t we have a Michael Rosen Day?’.
“I thought don’t be silly. Then I thought it could be a platform for encouraging children to read and write, so that’s my justification for MRD.
“The theme this year is Funny Food and I found, going through my poems, that I’ve quite often written about food in a funny way and sometimes in a serious way.”
Any schools looking to take part in MRD were given free access to online resources to help run the sessions.
