The Moor Park 10k and fun runs, which took place at Merchant Taylors’ School, have raised £40,000 for Mount Vernon Cancer Centre in Northwood.
More than 900 runners took part in the event on Sunday, 25 September, including 43 different schools and 32 running clubs.
Runners from Watford Joggers took first, second and third place in the 10k run. The school’s shield winner was Northwood College for Girls, who had over 100 runners taking part.
Many of those who took part were raising funds to thank the staff at the centre for the care received for themselves, family or friends.
Bindya Kotecha, who is being treated for breast cancer at the centre, walked the 10k route.
Bindya said: “Since my diagnosis of breast cancer and the incredible care I am receiving, all I have wanted to do was raise awareness for this charity. I feel that my new mission in life is to get together and make a difference to other people’s lives.”
Assistant director of the cancer division at the centre, Trisha Webbe, said: “We would like to thank everyone who took part in Moor Park 10k and fun runs to raise funds for Mount Vernon Cancer Centre.
“The money raised will help us fund complementary therapy sessions at the Lynda Jackson Macmillan Centre for patients having treatment for cancer. Thank you again for helping us provide this invaluable support when people need it.”
