AERODROME: Frustrated Radlett resident speaks out about ‘noisy’ planes

A fed up Radlett resident, living near Elstree Aerodrome, has complained about the havoc of the “constant” planes flying over the village.

The Newlands Avenue resident, who wishes to remain anonymous, has spoken out about the noise and “low-flying” planes. She says there has been an “inexorable” increase in the low-flying single prop planes over the village.

The resident said: “At certain times of the day, it isevery two minutes and will carry on for hours. I am sure if this were known by people wishing to move into the area, they might think twice.

“Weekends are obviously the worst, just when everyone craves peace and quiet. I find it sad that the hobby of a few individuals should be so intrusive on the lives of so many.”

Michael Murphy, a spokesperson for Elstree Aerodrome, said: “Elstree Aerodrome has beena licensed aerodrome since 1951 and is the only remaining licensed airfield in Hertfordshire. As part of holding this Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) licence the aerodrome has a Consultative Committee which meets regularly to discuss the facility operations.

“Airspace over Radlett is not controlled by us or any other Air Navigation Service Provider. The reference to “low-flying” incidents should be addressed to the CAA as it’s illegal under the Air Navigation Order. Aircraft flying outside of controlled airspace are not permitted to fly higher than 2,500 feet due to the restrictions of Heathrow controlled airspace.”
