A group of travellers who set up camps twice in Stanmore has sparked residents to start Friends Groups to protect the spaces.
At the end of last month, a small group of travellers set up an encampment in Stanmore Marsh, then when evicted, relocated to Canons Park.
Recently another encampment behind the library which left the owners with a horrific clean-up bill totalling more than £92,000.
The Stanmore Society is now urging locals to start Friends of Groups to help protect the areas green spaces.
Michelle Chalibamba from the group said: “Unfortunately, some unwanted visitors recently had their eyes on our magnificent green spaces.
“To ensure that we maintain these amazing assets each park needs to form Friends Groups. The Friends of Bernays Gardens are doing a tremendous job renovating and returning the Gardens to their former glory.
“Now it is time to do the same for Stanmore Recreation Ground.”
The society will be hosting a public meeting with the chairman of Harrow Parks forum on Thursday, July 25 at 7pm at a venue to be confirmed.
A drop in session for a Friends of Stanmore Park group will be at the New Peacock Cafe in the rec from 2 to 4pm on July 26.
