TECH SKILLS: Students at Stanmore College create engineering innovations

Published on: 5th July 2022   |   By: Bryn Holmes   |   Category: Uncategorized

Level three engineering students at Stanmore College have been busy using their skills to make some truly innovative designs with practical applications in the real world.

The young people at the college have proved themselves more than up to the task of designing specialised devices to solve specific problems and then bringing them to life.

With the aid of their teacher Dr Afrouz Mehr, the budding engineers impressed staff and students alike with their unorthodox problem-solving machines.

One student, Migul, managed to make a robot car equipped with recording cameras, designed with the purpose of going under trains to detect any defects or any other issues. The robot would be controlled via a mobile phone app.

His classmate Yusif also made a car, with the intention of the device being used to enter areas that are not safely accessible by human beings, such as post-disaster rubble, and detect life.

Year 2 student Moiz was able to use the Ardunio programme to engineer the controls to make a robotic arm work, designed for use in automobile factories. The arm also boasted such features as drawing and laser-cutting components.

The devices were later put on full display in the Willow Building at Stanmore College’s full day for those joining in the next academic year on Thursday, June 30, allowing all attendees to see the engineers’ technical prowess.
