Bentley Priory Museum in Stanmore has secured an £83,000 grant from The National Lottery Heritage Fund.
The funding will allow the museum to tell the story of the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force (WAAF) within The Dowding System, the world’s first ground-controlled command and control system.
The museum’s Clerk Special Duties project will capture and share the stories of the women whose war-time contribution was vital but silenced by The Official Secrets Act.
Alongside this, the museum is working to digitise its WAAF collection ahead of a temporary exhibition later in 2023.
Eleanor Pulfer-Sharma, the director of Bentley Priory Museum, said: “The Heritage Fund grant will enable the museum to reach new audiences through engagement with our WAAF collection in innovative ways.”
