BEAUTIFUL SOUL: Fundraiser honouring late Berkhamsted hockey club player smashes target

Published on: 10th February 2025   |   By: Owen Barnard   |   Category: Uncategorized

A charity fundraiser set up in memory of a late hockey club player has already far exceeded its original target.

Ed Holderness passed away on Tuesday, January 7, just weeks before his 26th birthday.

Members of Berkhamsted and Hemel Hempstead Hockey Club (BHHHC) have rallied to donate to a fundraiser set up by Ed’s friends in his memory.

According to the fundraiser, Ed had asked his friends to run the Berkhamsted Half Marathon on Sunday, March 2, in order to raise funds for Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH). At the time of writing, the team of 17 have raised £7,184, well above the original £500 target.

On a website set up in Ed’s memory, a post by Liz, Jamie, Will and Harriette said: “We know that Ed is special to so many people. He is the most kind-hearted and thoughtful person with a pure heart, beautiful soul and sunny smile.”

Paying tribute to Ed and his family on the website, chair of BHHHC Paul Dubenski said: “I am lost for words at your devastating family news about the loss of Ed – he was such a talented and popular young man you should all be so very proud of.

“Over the years, Ed and your family have impacted so many of our BHHHC members in so many positive ways through your demonstration of sporting skill, sportsmanship, leadership (as officers and captains of the club), friendship and generosity to all.”
