FORCES FUN: Art winners enjoy their special visit to Northwood HQ

Winners from Christmas art competitions held in recent years finally got to enjoy their prize which involved a special visit to Northwood.

The Hertfordshire Heroes Christmas Art competition, organised by Hertfordshire County Council, saw winning entries enjoy a visit to the Armed Forces headquarters in Northwood on June 14.

It came years after the children’s success with winners from as far back as 2019 enjoying the visit known as a Day of Adventure.

The day, which was delayed because of the pandemic, included children and their parents/carers spending the day raft building, rock climbing, having a tour of the base, doing an arts and craft session and meeting the commanding officer and some of his armed forces colleagues.

Councillor Terry Douris, chairman of the Hertfordshire Armed Forces Covenant Board, said: “Generously hosted by Northwood HQ, the fantastic Day of Adventure recognises the great collaboration between Northwood HQ and HCC.

“It serves as an engaging way for the children and their families to learn more about the Armed Forces based here in Hertfordshire.”

Lt Ian Miller VR. Day of Adventure event organiser, said: “It was an absolute pleasure to see so much enthusiasm and smiles from the parents and children from the surrounding area enjoying a Day of Adventure here at Northwood Headquarters.

“From Raft Building and Sports to Arts and Craft and Rock Climbing, everyone got involved and it would be great to invite the next group of Hertfordshire Heroes Christmas Art competition winners back again next year.”
