FOR ROSS: Garston school raises £15,000 in memory of beloved late pupil

Staff and students from a Garston school recently came together to complete a charity walk in memory of a beloved former pupil.

St Michael’s Catholic High School completed its annual Sponsored Walk this year in memory of Ross Evans, a former student whose optimism, determination and cheerful spirit touched everyone who knew him.

Ross was diagnosed with cancer at a young age during his time at St Michael’s, yet he never allowed adversity to dim his hopes or limit his ambitions. Even when treatment meant he couldn’t attend school, Ross continued learning from home, joining lessons through an iPad and working with such dedication that his progress astonished everyone who supported him. He never complained, never asked for special treatment, and remained motivated to complete his qualifications and pursue his dream of going to university, which he proudly achieved.

Sadly, Ross recently passed away and his loss has been deeply felt across the school community.

The team was honoured to be joined on the walk by Ross’s older brother George and his friends, themselves former students, which made the day even more meaningful. Together, they raised more than £15,000 for two charities: Dreamflight, which takes children with a significant illness or disability on a memory-making holiday to Orlanda, Florida, and Rays of Sunshine, a charity that grants wishes and offers support to seriously ill children.

The school told Garston News: “Our Sponsored Walk is always a highlight of the school calendar, but walking in Ross’s name brought a special sense of unity and purpose. With over £15,000 raised so far, it has been a privilege to honour Ross’s courage, kindness, and the joy he brought to St Michael’s.”
