A born and bred Berkhamsted professional foot-golfer has had a year he will never forget after working his way to the top of the sports world, European and national rankings respectively.

Considering Ben Clarke hadn’t heard of the sport five years ago, yet he is the 2019 World, European and UK Footgolf Champion, highlights his determination to be the best.

The 28-year-old has had a whirlwind career in the sport which took him a bit of time to adjust to.

He said: “It takes a bit of getting used to, considering I didn’t know the sport five years ago. To have all that success in such a short space of time – it feels amazing.”

Ben’s journey into the sport was destined it seems, as it all happened by accident.

After someone tweeted him saying he should give it a try, Ben travelled to a local spot to play and was spotted in his first game by the head of UK development, who saw something he liked.

Fast forward five years and Ben is the two-time World Tour Champion, 2019 World Number One, four-time UK Champion, two-time European Champion and four-time major tournament winner.

The former Berkhamsted FC player said: “This year has been mad. It has literally been the perfect year for me. I love the game and I want to make sure I can stay in it for as long as possible.

“Hopefully it keeps on going in the right direction and takes off one day. It really is a great sport, I can’t speak of it highly enough.”
