Published on: 19th March 2024   |   By: Annabel Stock   |   Category: Uncategorized

A Bushey music school will hold a concert at Southwark Cathedral this summer to celebrate a beloved teacher.

Edward Longstaff has been a member of staff at The Purcell School since 1993. During this time, his roles have included academic music teaching, orchestral and choral conducting, chamber music coaching and composition teaching.

After 31 years of service, Edward will leave the school at the end of the academic year. To mark the occasion and celebrate his achievements, the school will hold a concert at Southwark Cathedral at 7.30pm on Thursday, June 27.

The Grand Summer Concert will see Edward conduct The Purcell School’s orchestra and choir as they perform Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony and Ecce Sacerdos Magnus by Bruckner. Joining the choir will be acclaimed vocal soloists Susanna Fairbairn, Emma Carrington, Paul Austin Kelly and Andrew Greenan, as well as many returning alumni from Edward’s time at the school.

In addition to a successful career as an educator, Edward is also a composer and musician.
