FLY TIPPING: Hunton Bridge waste removal company fined over incident

Published on: 3rd September 2024   |   By: Nik Allen   |   Category: Uncategorized

A company based in Hunton Bridge has been prosecuted for fly tipping.

Eco Clear Waste Management (ECWM) pleaded guilty at St Albans Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, July 31, to the unauthorised deposit of controlled waste in Dodds Lane, Hemel Hempstead. The offence took place in September 2023.

ECWM was ordered to pay £13,475, which consisted of a £10,000 fine, £1,159 costs, £2,000 victim surcharge and compensation of £316.

The court heard that an environmental enforcement officer from Dacorum Borough Council (DBC) attended a report of fly tipping in a country lane near Grovehill. While inspecting the household waste, the officer found evidence of its origin. Further investigation revealed that ECWM had been hired to remove and dispose of the rubbish.

The company’s sole director failed to engage with officers, so the matter was referred to court.

Councillor Robin Bromham, DBC’s portfolio holder for neighbourhood operations, said: “It is outrageous that a company with a waste carrier licence would be found to be dumping rubbish. We are working to get their licence revoked.”
