Thousands of spectators watched in awe as firefighters from around the world competed in the British Firefighter Challenge on Watford High Street.
The spectacle, on Saturday, July 27 to Sunday, July 28, saw over 250 currently serving and former service professionals from 16 countries compete for the top spot in the gruelling while also raising money for charity.
The event, hosted by the Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service, challenged teams of firefighters to take part in strength and endurance challenges in full Persona Protective Equipment (PPE), including a tower stair ascent, team relay race and 70kg dummy casualty rescue.
This year’s challenge was again to support the mental, physical and social health of serving and former firefighters. The figure for how much was raised this year are not yet available, but it’s believed to be in the same region as the £5,000 raised in last year’s event.
