Armed police were investigating in Radlett last night following a report of a man with a weapon near a Radlett synagogue.

Officers were called to Watling Street just after 7.35pm yesterday (Tuesday, October 10) after the sighting. The weapon is believed to be an imitation firearm.

Police shortly arrived at the scene, with armed officers accompanied by the local force and the dog unit. They then conducted a search of the area.

One individual was stopped and checked, but they were quickly identified as not being a suspect. Searches continued, but no suspect was identified.

This comes amidst heightened tension amidst Radlett’s large Jewish community following the recent intensification of the conflict between Israel and Hamas.

Radlett’s Safer Neighbourhood Inspector Rachael Robertson said: “I appreciate this incident will no doubt cause some concern amongst our community.

“I would like to reassure everyone that we are proactively patrolling the area and engaging with the public. It is our duty to keep everyone safe.

“If you have any concerns or if you see anything suspicious, please contact police.”
