Chalfont St Peter residents are glad to hear the church bells ring again in the village.

On May 23 Chalfont St Peter’s Church bells rang again after not being able to ring for over six months due to the lockdown.

Bell ringer Valerie Robbins was also excited to announce that the church was recently awarded a gold award for the maintenance of the bells.

She said: “The Tower Captain and Steeple Keeper have not been idle during these months; they have painted the ringing room and maintained the bells.

“They have done such a good job we have won another gold award for maintenance,  these awards are very hard to get.   Well done Steve (tower captain) and Gerry (steeple keeper).”

Every two years the tower is inspected, this involves checking the bell frames, bell chamber and the ringing room.

Points are awarded for maintenance and neatness, the gold award is very hard to achieve and Chalfont st Peter’s tower has one them several times, the last one was received during COVID-19 restrictions.
