FINAL RUN: Northwood Cricket Club bids farewell to president after 27 years

Published on: 24th May 2025   |   By: Nik Allen   |   Category: Uncategorized

The president of Northwood Cricket Club (NCC) has stepped back after 27 years.

At the beginning of April, NCC announced that president Keith Knowles would be replaced by Martin Mendelssohn. The decision had been finalised at the club’s general meeting on Friday, March 28.

Key achievements of Keith’s tenure include NCC acquiring their own ground, building a new clubhouse and nets, and creating a youth system.

On Facebook, NCC wrote: “Since Keith joined in the 1960s, he has had Northwood in his heart and NCC has him in ours. From player to president and also codger, from Presidents’ Day to Winter Sunday Sessions, he will continue to support and watch the sides succeed on the pitch.”

Also at the general meeting, Jonnie Baron was announced as NCC’s new captain, replacing Nirrushan Raveenthiraraja, who held the role for four years. Known as Nirru, the former captain saw the club finish in the top four in their respective divisions in each season and guided them to a promotion.

NCC added: “Nirru brought a demand to win and drive and resilience to succeed to the young squad, resulting in record points tallies. He will now step back as we enter a new chapter, but if opposition teams think they can breathe a sigh of relief, Nirru will still be taking to the field supporting Jonnie as we build again for the future.”
