Watford-based charity has launched its 10th Christmas appeal to provide financial support to families who are facing hardship this winter.
The HABS Family Support Team collaborates with school-aged children in Watford and Three Rivers to address social, emotional and health issues that create barriers to their learning and emotional wellbeing.
Their Christmas appeal originated from a counselling session with a six-year-old boy who expressed his dislike for Santa Claus. He had shared that his Dad had informed him that Santa had forgot to visit one Christmas and would be returning the following week with presents.
The boy’s single Dad told HABS, “I just can’t do it”, and sadly Santa never returned.
When HABS heard that the boy hadn’t received a present of Christmas meal in two years, they stepped in to help.
Now in its 10th year, the appeal has continued to grow. In 2022, the team delivered presents to more than 500 local children, supplied gas and electricity to more than 200 families, and supplied a festive meal to more than 150 families.
