There were smiles all around as the Kings Langley Christmas Lights Festival got into full swing tonight. Mayor of Dacorum, Kings Langley cllr Bob McLean, switched on the High Street lights to the delight of the crowd. Stalls lined the road selling gifts, food and warm drinks and there were plenty of carousels and rides to keep the kids happy. Many of the shops and local businesses got in on the act too, with several stunning displays adding to the atmosphere. The main stage was alive and full of Christmas spirit as local choirs and bands played famous tunes. The festival lived up to its reputation as one of the biggest events in Dacorum, with thousands packing the High Street for a chance to grab some mulled wine and roasted chestnuts. Sarah Kennedy, 23, travelled from Hemel Hempstead for the evening. Although it was her first visit to the festival, she was sure she would be back in the years to come. She said: “It’s so handy to have something like this so close to home, and it’s lovely to see the community come together for such a festive event. The atmosphere really made it.” A local resident said they had never seen so many people along the High Street and added: “This has to be one of the best festivals yet.”
