RISING STAR: Kings Langley teen behind vocals in new Disney Christmas advert

A teen from Kings Langley has been announced as the voice behind the track featured in Disney’s new Christmas campaign.

Griff, 19, born Sarah Griffiths, from the village can be heard singing the brand-new track ‘Love is a Compass’ in the new Disney Christmas animated short From Our Family To Yours.

This new track and short is part of Disney’s new campaign in support of the Make-A-Wish Foundation, marking their 40-year partnership.

Griff expressed her excitement for featuring in the campaign and added that she resonates with the important themes in the short.

She said: “I was excited to get involved in Disney’s Christmas campaign, in support of Make-A-Wish®. The lyrics of the track and the storytelling in the advert are powerful and important. The theme of family and loved ones are so front of mind for many of us – especially this Christmas.”

Griff, who is an Ivor Novello Rising Star nominee has described the short to the PA news agency “as the happy ending everybody wants to see.”

The short itself tells the touching story of a grandmother, her granddaughter and the family traditions that connect them through the years.

Griff, who is descendent of both Jamaican and Chinese heritage, said this story resonated with how she is feeling and her relationship with her mother.

She said to PA: “For me it really resonated with me and my mum. We are going through that time now.

“There is that bit in the ad where they grow up and the granddaughter goes away and I feel that’s the tension I am facing now.

“My mum is not from the UK and I am this Western daughter who is growing up in a very Western world.

“But times like Christmas are times when you can just come together and share those moments. It definitely made me think of my mum.”

Tasia Filippatos, senior vice president of Disney EMEA, said: “Christmas is a time for giving and giving back, and we’re delighted to debut this festive ad campaign supporting our long-term charity partner Make-A-Wish. Our goal was to tell a universal story that inspires through the themes of family, love and special holiday traditions. We hope that Disney fans enjoy the short.”

The track written by production team PARKWILD, has been released as a charity single and for every download before December 31, 2020, 100% of proceeds from the retail price will be donated to Make-A-Wish Foundation.
